The EDS Experience

The El Mogazi Family

As parents, one of the toughest decisions we make in life is where to enroll your child in school. We can say without a doubt, enrolling Garrett in EDS has been one of the best decision we have ever made! We are truly grateful for the dedicated teachers and staff who have welcomed our son into a nurturing and creative environment through all his years of school.  There are so many reasons we love Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School; small classes, academic excellence, latest technology, student diversity, environmental awareness and school garden...but above all is knowing your child is surrounded by caring, patient, creative and fun loving people. We feel EDS is an absolute blessing!  The exceptional teachers and staff have helped create wonderful memories for Garrett. Allowing parents to be heavily involved and participate in those memories is icing on the cake! We have enjoyed being a part of the EDS family since Garrett was in Prek-4 and are excited about his upcoming high school years at the beautiful new South Campus.

Rob and I chose EDS as the school for our children after looking at several schools in the area and prayerful consideration. Our faith is very important to us and we want our children to be at a school that promotes God on a daily basis while providing a strong educational foundation for them. The class sizes are small enough for individual attention, and Ms. Boo Kay is a truly gifted servant-leader. Collin and Tessa have grown emotionally, academically, and spiritually since their first day of school. This was not a decision taken lightly and we are happy with the choice we made.

Sincerely, Robert and Danette Null Parents of Collin and Tessa

We have been part of the EDS family for almost 5 years now.  Our journey to Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School started even before we moved back home to Lake Charles.  I started researching schools a year or two before we moved back, and one stood out immensely above any other, EDS.

When my husband and I toured the school we immediately felt at home, and that it was the right place for our (then only 2!) boys.  It has been the absolute best decision to become an EDS family.  The education our children receive is phenomenal, the teachers are amazing, and the entire staff is kind and caring.  We are so thankful for small class sizes, individualized learning plans within a flexible curriculum that challenges them, and most of all a Christian education and environment.  Our boys come home excited to tell us about their day and all that they are learning.  We love that they get to plant gardens, participate in community service outreach projects, and experience diverse learning outside of the "classroom walls".

My husband and I have made lifelong friendships with other families here.  Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School is absolutely one of the biggest blessings in our lives.  We have added a few more current and future Eagles to our family over the last couple of years, and we're thrilled to continue our EDS experience for many years to come!

Sincerely,
Eric and Cara Fontenot

The Guilbeau Family

The Guilbeau family journey through EDS began in 1972. I started kindergarten with a wonderful teacher named Bel Painter and have a distinct recollection of asking if she was going to teach us to paint. She did – and a lot more. From kindergarten, I went into a first grade class taught by Mrs. Covington. Mrs. Covington was an outstanding first grade teacher, principal of the school, and one of the pillars from where the school grew. Several years later in fourth grade, I had the opportunity to be taught by an energetic young teacher named Boo Kay. Mrs. Kay would play a key role in the vision of the school.

I graduated from EDS in the sixth grade (there was no seventh and eighth grade at the time). From there, I went to Oak Park Junior High and then to St. Louis. I attended college at LSU and returned home with a law degree from Loyola. The personal foundations and friendships made and formed during that time period at EDS are still impacting my life today.

I met my wife - Jill (now married for 18 years), and we started building our life together in Lake Charles. We have two wonderful children, Benjamin (15) and Rachel (13). When it was time to make a decision to choose a school, we had many resources to access in that Jill has a Master’s Degree in Education and certified as a gifted teacher. She had insight and access to multiple educational programs across the city. However, it took one visit to Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School to make the choice of schools very easy.

The school had grown from a single hall with six classrooms to multiple wings, technology platforms, and even more opportunities unique to EDS (culturally diverse student body, eco-friendly programs, and many more). Specifically, the small class size that EDS maintains is something you rarely see in most school settings. It allows the teacher to focus on teaching the students as individuals rather than too much focus having to be on classroom management. Now some eleven years later, our son is at St. Louis thriving educationally, socially, and athletically from the foundations he gained from EDS and our daughter will graduate this year from EDS ready for all the challenges of high school, thus completing this part of our journey with EDS. The wonderful young teacher from fourth grade in 1976 is now another pillar of the school and still possesses the same energy and drive to make the school a special environment for all the faculty, parents, and students.

There is no doubt that over forty years, Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School continues to grow and continues to be the absolute best education choice for Southwest Louisiana.

Of all the investments Fred and I have ever made, the investment in our boys' education at EDS has been the most rewarding.

At Bishop Noland Episcopal Day School, Derrick and David developed a love for learning, a strong work ethic, a willingness to take risks to explore their individual gifts, and an appreciation for the gifts of others.

At the foundation of it all, EDS reinforced the Christian values we were trying to instill at home, while embracing a diverse student body in a respectful, loving environment. What a wonderful example for our children!

Their EDS education will pay dividends for a lifetime and will grow substantially in value through the years. What better investment could a parent make?

Sincerely, Denise and Fred Rau Parents of Derrick (EDS Class of 2008) and David (EDS Class of 2009)

Justin and I were so excited to move back home, Southwest Louisiana, after being gone for a decade. I originally toured EDS with only preschool in mind. After touring the campus and seeing the EDS family in action, I knew we'd found our home. I was stunned by the open and welcoming environment, amazed by the outdoor classrooms, and moved by the joy and comfort of every child I saw. I eagerly enrolled our two year old daughter, Abby, for the upcoming year.

Private schools always focus and boast of their academics and spirituality. EDS provides that, but so much more. EDS teaches the WHOLE child and partners with parents to develop wonderful citizens, bright innovators, and excellent stewards of knowledge. EDS grows beautiful souls and human beings. This school is more than four walls and a "great education". Students lift off to their next endeavor knowing the value of caring for their environment, offering service to their fellow man, and respecting and celebrating differences.

Abby is now seven and THRIVING in first grade. She adores her teacher and loves visiting her former teachers. I enjoy volunteering at the school and serving my second year as Parent Guild President. We've also added a new future Eagle to our nest, Jake, who loves to visit his future teachers while mom volunteers. I love the energy and commitment of our parents to support our school, faculty, staff, and teachers. Justin and I have grown close to many of the EDS parents, and enjoy having this community as a soft place to land. It is often said by many Eagle families that "EDS just hugs you back" - that summarizes the home we've found in EDS.

We can't wait to see what the rest of our EDS journey has in store for our family!
